Juno

I dont really get what this story is about. But i loves the girl who plays Juno (Ellen Page). She is just so cool and so cute. Damn! I sounded like a lesbo. Seriously, I love guys. It's just that sometime I adores God's creations to much. ^_^

p/s: The soundtrack is not bad itself. I like 'anyone else but you' and 'all i want is you' the most.

The Blind Side

This is a great story. A very great story indeed. I cried a few times through out the story. This story is based on a real life football player, Michael Oher. And as always, real life story never fail to caught my attention.

Michael is a negro who lives in the suburban area and due to his size and ability to play sports, he is admitted into an all-white Christian school. People stares at him like he is some kind a freak only because his skin colour is different from the rest of them.

LeAnn, a mother of two kids who went to school together with him felt pity for him and brought him home. Give him a room to himself, treat him like a family. And the whole family do accept him into the family.

He started to play football and with the help of his little brother, SJ and LeAnn herself, he become one of the best and many colleges and university offered him a place to continue his study. However his GPA is not good nough and that's when his mother pay for a private tutor that helps him a lot and he later succeeded and went into Ole Miss, where all the rest of the family further their study.

What really touched me is despite of his differences, all the people around him really accept him. And he is a very protective person, willing to injured himself to protect his family.

p/s: I ranked this story 4 out of 5 stars ^_^

Padang, Sumatera Barat - Day 3

Wake up when the sun is shining so bright directly above your head. I guess this is the definition of vacation for my family - sleeping all we want and dont bother bout going for seightseeing too much. Hehe.

After waking up, have some lucnh then went shopping. Well since the nearby mall had been closed due to collapsing caused by the earthquake, and we dont really feel like going to the one that is quite far from our hotel, so we decided to went to a 'pasar' about 10 minutes away from our place.

Well, it is almost similar to Pasar Payang in Terengganu but a lot bigger with lots and lots of things inside. Outside the pasar is a wet area where people sell fruits and all the kitchen stuff - meats, fish and all.We dont really buy anything much except for a few things to munch while in the hotel.

Later that night, the routine continues. Me with my reading n my mom and sis watching tv.

Padang, Sumatera Barat - Day 2

Waking up very early though i had only slept for a few hours (curse the damn novel for keeping me up so late) Today is the big day and the main reason why we came here on the first place. It is my big sis convocation.

Well there's something unique bout the convocation here and the most obvious is how the students dressed up. They look like they are going to a bloody wedding. They need to dressed up well, had to make up and all stuff done by the brides. Just to give a brief idea, my sis spend more than 1 million Rupiah just for the dress she wanted to wear that day. It is a waste of money if you ask me, but what the heck it was her day. So let her be..

The ceremony held in two different places. Early in the moring, they had to go to the main campus which is in Limau Manis if I am not mistaken which we dont go because according to my sis, it is not compulsory and due to the heavy traffic, no taxi will be willing to take us there.

After the ceremony at the main campus ended, everybody headed to the faculty which located in Jati. Now here is where my sis will receive her degree. If in Malaysia, each graduates will receive a scroll. But it was a different story here. They will receive a folder instead with a little gift, turns out to be a Quran (I wonder what do indian graduates get)

The ceremony was rather a simple one, held only in a small hall (I think the size of 4 times badminton court) Graduates will be seated according to their matric number and behind them all, there are rows (I think maybe 5 rows) of chairs to be filled by parents who arrived early (yes, not all parents can seat in the hall). And since we dont go to the main campus, we did arrived early and we get a spot in the hall.

Graduates enter the hall and take their seats and soon after followed by all the lecturers, deans and all. After singing Indonesia national anthem and giving respect to all the lost warriors, the ceremony begins. If here in Malaysia, no students will be allowed to enter the hall once it had started, a different view can be seen here. Graduates keeps on entering the hall and take their seats regardless of whatever happen at that moment.

There are a few things that caught my attention during the whole sesion which are:

1) There are no 'Gamelan' or whatever music being played during the sessions
2) For each student who being called upon to received the ertificates, the parents or who ever that came that day will stand up as if to give their respect.
3) At the entrane door of the hall, there are parents standing like they are seing some kind of concert or something
4) I can definitely hear kids shouting and crying a couple of times during the ceremony though I could not really tell where that kid is

After it all ended (which took a couple of hours - I fell asleep quite a few times) we went to take pictures in a studio belonged to a friend of my sister. I have been to Angah and Kak Long's picture session and nothing was like this one. I enjoyed myself though =)

Later that night went back to hotel and the reading continues

Padang, Sumatera Barat - Day 1

Safely arrived at Minangkabau International Airport around 7.30 a.m (Padang time) which mean it was 8.30 s.m (Malaysia time). The last time i came which was in 2002, the plane landed at the Tabing Airport. This terminal is bigger than Tabing's. The view, as far as I can recall was definitely or at least almost the same typical Padang view.

Before check in to the hotel, we went for our first breakfast in Padang. I ate nothing because nothing really suite my appetite but I know, soon I will have to swallow eveerything even if I might not like it. Staying for a week really dont give me a choice.

We stayed at Wisma Kemala which is a one storey hotel or more likely as a guest house (but seriously, it is a hotel). The cost? Rupiah 200, 000.00++ per day (I dont remember the exact figure - I dont really care actually..hehe)

The first day is quite dull actually because we just spend the whole day gossiping in the room (my mom and my sis actually..I was sleeping, hoping that i might met someone at drimland =p )

For dinner, we ate at Red Bean Cafe. Quite a nice place actually and the food was marvelous!! And not to forget loads!! So everyone seems to have quite a problem in finishing their meal.

After the dinner, you got that right. The gossip session continues and I was on my own world with my novel (seriously everybody should develop a reading habit because this might be your saviour when you're almost die of boredom)

London Dreams

It has been a while since the last time i saw a nice Hindustan movie like this one. I think the last is Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham (Considering that Slumdog Millionaire is basically an English movie using Hindustanies to act).

This is a story of friendship and determination. It shows you how far would someone go to achieve what they want.

London Dreams features the story of, Arjun (Ajay Devgan) who would go as far as hurting his bestfriend, Mannu (Salman Khan) who really adores him to the extend of thinking him as his god, in order to become a amous stage performer.

Since Arjun is a little boy, he had always been interested in music. However Arjun's father had never blessed his interest in music. Each time Arjun said he wanted to be a singer, or do something associated with music, he will only received slap from his father. His father hates music so much because of his grandfather.

His grandfather used to be a traditional singer and once performed in Wembley Stadium. However, due to the thousands of crowds, he chocked. He couldnt sing at all. Thinking that he only embarrassed his country, he commit suicide. Since this day forward, the wole family banned music from their life. This however does not include Arjun. He really wanted to perform in Wembley Stadium to prove to his family that the history will never repeat.

After his father passed away, he went to London with his uncle a.k.a his only family left. He ran away from his uncle and started to pursue his dream. Until one day when he already growned up, he met with two guys and soon they formed a band together after realising how much they have in common regarding music.

Soon he met and fell in love wit a girl, Priya. But because he dont want to let his focus of music to slip, he forbid himself from telling Priya how does he felt about her.

Back in his village, his bestfriend, Mannu who is gifted with the talent in music (eventhough he really have very little interest in it) is struggling to make a living by performing at wedding ceremony. He cheated Arjun to come back to the village and Arjun realise how talented Mannu is so he decided to bring Mannu back to London to join his band.

During one of the performance, Arjun is facing a minor problem and he ask Mannu to sing for him. Mannu did a fantastic job and the crowds love him so much. Arjun become so jealous with Mannu's increasing popularity.

Because of his envious feeling of the rising success of Mannu, he teamed with Zohed, one of his band members and they sabotage Mannu. Lead him into drug addiction and tried to convict him with drug delaing charges. In the same time, to cover his wicked plan, Arjun pretended like he was helping Mannu by convincing the cops to let him go.

Soon Arjun have the opportunity of performing in Wembley's, the dream he always dreamt of. He decided that it is going to be his night. So he drug Mannu and he performed all by himself. To his surprise, the crowd still shouts for Mannu and that's when he lose control and he blurted out all the things that he had done to Mannu. Mannu hear everything and this is the end of their group.

The story ends by showing Arjun went back to the village with his uncle and he met Mannu. They both apologize to each other. It's a great story indeed.
